Kodi and playing network media on Android

If I haven’t said it before I will say it again “I Love Kodi“. I’ve been using Kodi for a long time, can’t even remember the first version (was called XBMC back then).

I have all my media on a Synology NAS, and this works well for the two RaspberryPI’s running OpenELEC, as this is Linux based I can just mount the shares using NFS and away we go.

I then wanted to try running Kodi on my phone and tablet, so downloaded the Android version (Not on playstore yet 🙁 ), setup the advancedsettings.xml for database sharing, and everything worked, except it couldn’t find any of the files to play.

Then I started messing around with the Path substitution settings and voila, it’s working 🙂

<pathsubstitution>
  <substitute>
    <from>/storage/TvShows/</from>
    <to>smb://server/tvshows/</to>
  </substitute>
  <substitute>
    <from>/storage/Movies/</from>
    <to>smb://server/movies/</to>
  </substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
